Ellie Pratt and Guendalina Cerruti

Shared booth with Ginny on Frederick

miart, Milan

14 - 16 April 2023

South Parade and Ginny on Frederick are pleased to participate in miart, Milan presenting new work by Ellie Pratt and Guendalina Cerruti.

Ellie Pratt’s paintings draw us into a world of familiarity and mystery; questioning and doubting. Rich in brushstroke and suggestive in colour, spectral forms appear from within an inner and outer reality; clouds, engine ducts and obscure reflective surfaces. The viewer is being viewed and strangely drawn through eyes and lips into a world of receding solace. As we question the paintings, the paintings question us. In probing the world of the emotional unconscious, Pratt draws inspiration from a range of pictorial and wider cultural references from Surrealism and Impressionism to modern musical lyrics and fashion magazines.

Guendalina Cerruti’s sculptures, paintings and installations represents inner mono- logues, as micro-universes loaded with sentiments of sarcasm and attitude, lying be- tween reality, representation and imagination. Subjectivity and popular culture come together to create emotive experiences for visitors entering the scene. For miart, Cer- ruti specifically explores metaphors that compare life to a fun park ride, with a desire to translate the meaning of those figures of speech into objects. As architectural models of amusement park rides, the sculptures form a skyline which attempts to subvert the usual associations of skyscrapers with work culture, capitalism and economic power to instead evoke leisure and play.
